Cheryl Ehlers, A Retrospective and Holiday Art Sale, Nov. 23

The Story of Cheryl Ehlers A Retrospective, November 23, 6-9

A great retrospective is one that makes a difference to our understanding of an artist’s work. For Cheryl, she goes into her own space and produces in very different ways. Complexity of content develops its greatest potency through the depth, breadth and repetition of the work they have made over decades, which can only be made palpable through experiencing the volume of works in a well-selected retrospective. Ehlers believes that Art simply cannot mirror what’s taking place. It must ally itself with the forces of liberation, and became a key figure within a vibrant community of creative artists, writers, and activists. Many times over the years, I've looked at a piece I've made and thought to myself, I can't remember doing that.' One remembers only traces of what happened. In that sense one main function of the art work is that it is an artifact of the process. It is much like art choosing the person rather than the person choosing to be an artist. Indeed, I don't really remember ever making the decision to become a painter, I found myself being one. The exhibit runs from November 7 – January 4, 2020.

Join me Saturday, November 23 at 6pm to :9pm pm for Art Night in  Encinitas, at the Encinitas Library located at 540 Cornish Drive, Encinitas, where the public can enjoy the artists as they swing their doors open to a very special Holiday treat, a Holiday Art sale. See what treasures artists have stretched their multiple talents and limits too. Something for everyone! Enjoy live music and refreshments, and it is all free to the public. A Special Art Reception, June 1, 2019, Hypnotic Movements; Chasing Coral

On June 1, local artist, Cheryl Ehlers will collaborate with The Ocean Agency and Exposure Film Labs to present an evening filled with coral and ocean themed art along with. a viewing of the Netflix film, Chasing Coral, at the upcoming Art Night hosted by the City of Encinitas. The event will be located at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Dr, Encinitas, 6-9 p.m.

Ehlers is supporting through her art, to bring awareness and spread the word about the coral reef crisis. Currently, an unprecedented 23%, have died-off in the world's largest reef, the Great Barrier Reef. World-wide, the percentage is mounting and has been destroyed by climate change. Come learn more, and assist in bringing, into the forefront, the importance of our living reefs.

Exposure Film Labs creates films and brings campaigns that change the world. Their worldwide film work is comprehensive and educational. “The introduction of art is a wonderful medium to peek public interest, and we are all excited about this opportunity “, stated Exposure Film Labs.

The Ocean Agency aims to be different. “There are more than enough ocean science and conservation organizations out there... there just isn't enough support and investment for the critical work they do. Instead their mission is to be a catalyst for ocean conservation, using the powerful combination of new technology, media, and above all creativity to help support ocean conservation as a whole. “We are honored to provide support to Cheryl Ehlers, who is so dedicated to our cause. It is individuals like herself that make a difference”, stated Michelle of The Ocean Agency in Georgia.

Ehlers is a published artist whose artworks are bold, colorful, and expressionist, filled with

emotion and movement. Motivated by watching the video, Chasing Coral, she began a one and half year journey of painting in support of the crisis. “At first, I was merely fascinated by the rainbow colors of coral reefs, and how they re-develop. It took my breath away, and then the reality sunk in, and was taken over by sadness as I watched coral dying. With these thoughts in my mind, the paintings took on a life of their own, and are filled with animals, creatures, and colors of coral and sea. You need to look deep inside the art to seek what is not seen at first glance., much like reef life. I found hope for the future of coral”. View the trailer on YouTube https://youtu.be/DRsUWSgad2s

The Sky's the Limit with The Stardust Arts at City Hall, Encinitas, December 3 - January 14, 2016

The Sky’s the Limit: The Stardust Arts: A Student Art Education Program Exhibits at Civic Center Gallery, Encinitas, December 3rd to January 14th, 2016.

What a great opportunity to display the student art of The Stardust Arts program, “The Sky’s the Limit.” Over 50 student’s works from 5 schools will be on exhibit at the Civic Center Gallery, City Hall in Encinitas during the 2015 holidays and Supported by the San Dieguito Art Guild a non-profit located at 937 S. Coast Hwy, C103 in Encinitas, CA.

Though not always recognized, art education is a fundamental building block of a child’s development. Since Plato’s time, arts have been a standard component of the common curriculum. Through art, a culture defines and molds itself; and with the growth of the graphic design industry, art education plays an increasingly relevant role. Stardust Arts is a California-based, visual art education program for kids established in 2009 by its founder, Cheryl Ehlers. As the primary educator, Ehlers has reached out to over 12,600 children and is known for her unique ability to help children discover their creative side. Stardust Art brings to underserved students the development of engaging the mind to reflect creativity and visions, and apply those thoughts to creating art. Since art is a universal form of communication, the expression of thought and processing is developed, and is necessary in the further development of a student’s academic success to a well-rounded education

Ehlers created The Stardust Arts as an after school arts program for first through fifth grade students. Few opportunities for positive after school experiences exist for low income children. It It began with a generous grant from the Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation. Ehlers mission was to bring excitement to the learning process, encourage artistic perception, and teach children problems can have more than one solution. She has assisted children in developing visual and spatial organization, creativity, and in building confidence in order to succeed in life. Since 2009 12,600 students in over 19 schools, local organizations and City programs have been available through grants, making classes available to underserved students. As the primary educator, and an artist herself, she is known for her unique ability to help children discover their creative side. Ehlers believes, art education is a fundamental building block of a child’s development and that each child holds within their makeup, exceptional creative visualization, a talent that goes beyond words, and that enables one to communicate with others though form. Art education plays an increasingly relevant role in today’s society and creates a well-rounded education.

The Stardust Arts is recognized by the California State Assembly, and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for its contributions to the San Diego County Community. It is and is part of a worldwide children’s art organization, Artsonia, and the National Educational Association.

Ehlers believes in teaching her students to “reach for the stars, and if you simply try, you can succeed at anything”. www.thestardustarts.com, 760-519-1551.

San Dieguito Art Guild, President Carol Korfin presents Cheryl Ehlers, Founder of The Stardust Arts funding for youth art.

At the December Annual Small Image show reception for the Gallery artists, The Stardust Arts was awarded funding to promote additional youth art programs.  The sponsorship could not have come at a better time, as Stardust will be promoting its “Angels” program in select schools, providing art to underserved students in the beginning of 2015.  Great things can can come in small packages!

The Stardust Arts, visual arts program was developed to encourage youth and student's personal interests, while providing a greater appreciation for visual art, in order to bring excitement to the learning process, encourage artistic perception, and teach children that problems can have more than one solution. Children develop visual spatial organization, creativity, as well as basic skills. Understanding perspective empowers them with confidence, it is a fantastic development.

There are many programs that provide an art experience, but Stardust tries to transform youth by adding the
element where expression reigns supreme.  “To see the smiles on faces, and the confidence it can build is amazing” states Cheryl. The Stardust Arts has been involved in the North San Diego coastal communities since 2009, and taught over 11,900 students providing an outreach program to all ages of children in numerous locations:  elementary schools, local Boys and Girls Clubs, outreach at community events and fairs, hosting private venues, exhibiting in public libraries, and any source where students art can share the joy of art in one's life.  “Something everyone needs to recognize today, you might say, I am just a kid at heart, and I love to relate to each student.  It is a gift that keeps giving, both ways”.

Stardust began with a dream, and was realized with the assistance of so many organizations that share in the belief, art can make a difference.  Special thanks go to the Kenneth A Picerne Foundation, City of Encinitas, City of Carlsbad, City of Oceanside who have provided The Stardust Arts the ability to maintain the program.  Together we “can” make a difference in the lives of youth, and great things come in small packages.

“I am honored to have the support of the San Dieguito Art Guild", soon to celebrate their 50th year in the community. I appreciate their recognition of the value of art in the community, thank you all",  states Cheryl Ehlers.

You can visit the Stardust Arts at www.stardustarts.com or contact Cheryl Ehlers at 760-519-1551 for more information.
