San Dieguito Art Guild, President Carol Korfin presents Cheryl Ehlers, Founder of The Stardust Arts funding for youth art.
At the December Annual Small Image show reception for the Gallery artists, The Stardust Arts was awarded funding to promote additional youth art programs. The sponsorship could not have come at a better time, as Stardust will be promoting its “Angels” program in select schools, providing art to underserved students in the beginning of 2015. Great things can can come in small packages!
The Stardust Arts, visual arts program was developed to encourage youth and student's personal interests, while providing a greater appreciation for visual art, in order to bring excitement to the learning process, encourage artistic perception, and teach children that problems can have more than one solution. Children develop visual spatial organization, creativity, as well as basic skills. Understanding perspective empowers them with confidence, it is a fantastic development.
There are many programs that provide an art experience, but Stardust tries to transform youth by adding the
element where expression reigns supreme. “To see the smiles on faces, and the confidence it can build is amazing” states Cheryl. The Stardust Arts has been involved in the North San Diego coastal communities since 2009, and taught over 11,900 students providing an outreach program to all ages of children in numerous locations: elementary schools, local Boys and Girls Clubs, outreach at community events and fairs, hosting private venues, exhibiting in public libraries, and any source where students art can share the joy of art in one's life. “Something everyone needs to recognize today, you might say, I am just a kid at heart, and I love to relate to each student. It is a gift that keeps giving, both ways”.
Stardust began with a dream, and was realized with the assistance of so many organizations that share in the belief, art can make a difference. Special thanks go to the Kenneth A Picerne Foundation, City of Encinitas, City of Carlsbad, City of Oceanside who have provided The Stardust Arts the ability to maintain the program. Together we “can” make a difference in the lives of youth, and great things come in small packages.
“I am honored to have the support of the San Dieguito Art Guild", soon to celebrate their 50th year in the community. I appreciate their recognition of the value of art in the community, thank you all", states Cheryl Ehlers.
